How To Influence People
Influence is not reserved for hostage negotiators. It is an everyday workplace skill used whenever you ask someone to approve a project, attend a meeting, review a presentation, pay an invoice or complete a task. This video challenges approaches based on pleading, pressure or passive aggression and introduces a simpler, behaviourally informed model of influence: motivation and ease. People are more likely to act when they can see a compelling reason to do something and when the action feels straightforward. You will learn how to increase motivation when a request is inconvenient by making the benefit more meaningful, and how to increase ease when motivation is low by reducing the time, effort or complexity involved. When both elements are weak, communication is likely to fail. By deliberately strengthening motivation and ease, you can help people act more willingly and make your requests significantly more persuasive.
Who’s It For?
Relevant for anyone who needs to gain cooperation or encourage action without relying on formal authority. This video will help you design requests that feel worthwhile, manageable and easier for other people to accept.
