What To Do When You’ve Been Ghosted

Silence after an email can quickly feel personal, but the stories you tell yourself may not reflect what is really happening. This video offers a constructive way to respond when a client, colleague or stakeholder stops replying. Begin by taking some of the emotion out of the situation and recognising that the other person may simply be overwhelmed or focused on different priorities. Before sending another chaser, return to the original communication and ask whether it was short, clear and compelling. Repeatedly forwarding an ineffective message is unlikely to produce a different result. You will also learn why guilt and passive-aggressive reminders can make people even less likely to respond. Instead, dial up empathy, reduce the effort required and offer an easier next step, such as a brief conversation rather than a full meeting. Where appropriate, a little humour can also remove tension and bring humanity back into the exchange.

Who’s It For?

Helpful for anyone waiting for a reply from a colleague, client or stakeholder. This video will help you follow up without blame or frustration, improve the original request and make it easier for the other person to respond.
