The challenge: Building a centralised L&D offering from the ground up
Until late 2022, learning and development requests had been delivered on a need or request basis at C&C Group.
But C&C’s senior leadership wanted to make learning more intentional, to strengthen company culture and team performance levels.
At the start of 2023, the business brought in several L&D specialists, including Leadership Development Manager Dan Garman, to centralise the function for the first time and provide learning more proactively.
But the new C&C L&D team was starting with a blank canvas. Dan and his colleagues had exciting ideas for the function they wanted to build, but first had to overcome challenges including:
- Working with limited budget and resources
- No learning experience platform (LXP)
- Trying to engage employees who weren’t used to L&D
- Creating a culture that would embrace and prioritise learning.
Understanding how challenging it can be to foster a learning culture, they moved quickly in demonstrating the value of L&D to the workforce.
Dan and his team launched the new L&D offering with a focus on management and leadership development, aiming to make leaders exceptional at driving high performance across the business.
When the organisation showed signs of readiness, they planned to invest in a new LMS and additional learning initiatives.
This approach was designed to empower senior employees to “lead from the front” and consequently inspire the rest of the workforce to see the value of L&D for themselves as a result.
The solution: A cost-effective, flexible L&D partner offering a vast range of quality content
With limited resources, it was clear that the L&D team needed a content partner to help navigate the challenges of building a new function and fostering a learning culture.
For Dan, suggesting inrehearsal to his team was a “no-brainer.”
“I’d worked with inrehearsal before in a previous role, and I always found it incredibly useful. The content, the people, it was all great. Within a month of joining C&C, I knew we needed it, and it took me no time to convince my colleagues and my boss to get onboard.”
The appeal of inrehearsal? Dynamic, flexible content in a variety of modalities:
- Bite-sized videos
- e-courses
- Pre-made learning pathways in boxsets
- Live events, like webinars
- And more…
The C&C team was eager to use inrehearsal’s videos alongside their existing systems. However, without an LXP or LMS, it was essential that the content could also be leveraged into live L&D workshops.
“We wanted to embrace a blended approach, like incorporating content into workshops,” said Dan. “Our new library had to be really flexible and easy-to-use the content wherever it was needed, and inrehearsal gave us exactly that.”
How they got leadership bought-in, on-budget
The quality content across such a broad variety of topics that really got the C&C senior leadership team invested.
For a new team working with a very tight budget, costs were also crucial. Another reason C&C selected inrehearsal was because of the cost-effectiveness on offer.
Not only did the affordability of inrehearsal help gain buy-in from the company’s senior leadership, but it also allowed the L&D team to launch their strategy quickly—and they are already reaping the benefits.
Dan said, “Since we finished that first L&D programme, there’s been such an obvious demand for what we’re doing now compared to before, and people are already demanding the next phase.”
“I dread to think where we’d be now if we didn’t have the inrehearsal content.”
The outcome: A supportive partnership that’s created a strong appetite for learning throughout the organisation
With the help of the inrehearsal content library, Dan and his colleagues have delivered a learning culture, resulting in an enthusiastic, motivated workforce. The impact on employees’ attitudes toward L&D has been hugely positive, and they’re proactively seeking more opportunities to learn and grow.
“The content blew people’s minds a bit,” said Dan.
“People now leave our L&D sessions wanting more. Thanks to our awesome content library from inrehearsal, we’ve been able to give that to them.”
Leaders who were inspired to learn influenced the rest of the workforce, and inrehearsal content kept them coming back for learning opportunities.
Dan said, “The videos, especially the workshop-style ones that feature someone getting coached, generate so many questions and are great for self-reflection.”
“The inrehearsal content has helped us create a real buzz for L&D. The quality of the content has really sparked interest in learning.”
The power of proactive leaders with access to great content
Managers and leaders are now coming to the L&D team and asking for learning materials for new starters.
They’re also seeing more people sign up for apprenticeships, driven by the L&D offering.
C&C employees are now actively excited about the next phase of the L&D programme, which is the launch of a new LXP.
The L&D team’s relationship with the inrehearsal team has also been an important influence on the success of this strategy.
Dan added, “The team is incredibly supportive and easy to work with. They’ve made my life so much easier.”
“It’s not like working with an L&D giant like Udemy, where you might feel like just a number. The people at inrehearsal are just amazing. They’re a content partner we can grow with as our learning culture continues to grow.”
