The challenge: Bringing digital skills to life for people at BT

BT wanted to build a common understanding of key digital capabilities across the business.

Going through a massive period of transformation, this was all about the world we live in as consumers — the expectation for things we want immediately, and the need for businesses to keep up with that.

And while specialist skills, AI and robotics are a big part of that, how the teams thought and behaved was equally important.

“Everybody needs to be aware of how we need to act from a behavioural perspective and have that mindset to actually achieve, do things quickly, and be there for customers at the point they want it”.

— Vicki Heaven-Chinnick, Senior Learning Partner, BT

The solution: A collaborative approach to content internally and with inrehearsal

BT took a collaborative approach, speaking to people across all levels of the business, understanding where their subject matters saw the future going, and working with external companies exploring future skills — like Accenture and Pearson.

But when it came to creating the content needed to build those skills, they really leant into their partnership with the inrehearsal team as Adam Goodsearles, Learning Partner, explains:

“We worked really collaboratively with Ben and the Inrehearsal team to not only bring the concepts to life from an understanding perspective, but also bring examples to the foreground to help people change the way they do things at BT.”

This approach allowed the BT to ask their customers two key questions:

1. What do they actually need when we talk about skills for the digital age?

2. And when do they need them?

“We decided to build these pieces of content, check in with different people — employees and subject matter experts within BT — and then keep checking in to make sure that we adjust accordingly,” Vicki added.

The outcome: Delivering ‘aha moments’ using inrehearsal as a content partner

“I could tell straight away that Inrehearsal were different from other learning content providers I’d spoken to before. I was able to see their videos and went through some “aha” moments myself going through videos on feedback.” — Adam Goodsearles, Learning Partner, BT.

This gave Adam instant confidence that inrehearsal could help bring complex topics to life and give learning real ‘aha’ moments — rather than just explaining concepts at a basic level..

Because they wanted to be flexible for their customers and nail things first time, they wanted a true content partner.

One that helps BT work in an agile way, to be collaborative and flexible with content, and they found that in Ben and the inrehearsal team.
